Review: ASUS VivoBook S400CA (Design & Specifications)

ASUS VivoBook is one of the newer series of ultrabooks released by ASUS lately. The VivoBook comes with a touchscreen which enables you to unleash the power of Windows 8 to the maximum. The touchscreen has a 10-fingers input capability. In this review, I will be discussing about the S400CA model, which is a 14″ ultrabook that weighs a mere 1.8KG and is powered by Intel Core i5 processor. It is also equipped with SonicMaster which provides you with an incredible audio performance.

Let us first take a look at the packing of the ultrabook first. As usual, the package contains no nonsense material as it is designed to be eco-friendly. Inside the box, it contains the instruction manual, the ultrabook, the power adapter, the power cord and the wired optical mouse. That should be the way how notebook/laptop should be packaged instead of giving too many unnecessary items which add on the weight and material used. The conventional brick-sized power adapter is also changed to a small small-sized shape which definitely looks more beautiful.

Let us now have a closer look at the design of the S400.

The ASUS VivoBook S400 is ergonomically designed with specially-formed round edges to provide you a cozy and natural grip, feeling as reassuring as taking a book. The textured aluminium chassis offers a sleek and elegant look. To further enhance the beauty of the S400, the hinges are hidden from sight to blend in with the sophisticated look. The front portion of the S400 is measured at 13mm while the rear portion is measured at 16mm.

Some of the other features worth mentioning includes the ability to quick charge your USB-powered devices even when your S400 is shut down, the large gesture touchpad which allows you to perform the normal tablet functions such as zooming, scrolling and etc, and ASUS IceCool Technology which ensures that the palm rests stay below body temperature so that they feel cool even after long hours of usage.

In my next post, I will be showing you the internal of the S400 and some of the common upgrades that you can do it on your own to increase the performance of the ASUS VivoBook S400.
