First Sweets of the Year @ Jones the Grocer

On the first day of new year, we headed out to Ion Orchard to send in my wallet to Prada for repair (the crystal studs had rust in them *sob sob). It was surprisingly quiet in town and traffic was particularly smooth on a public holiday.  We walked past Jones the Grocer several times at Mandarin Gallery but we did not find a chance to go in for a try given that it was always pretty crowded. Given that it is a quiet public holiday in town, we were torn on whether we should have our tea-break at Jones the Grocer or Becasse. Since we have always wanted to give Jones a try, we decided to forgo the latter for this time and headed on to Jones instead.

Here’s what we ordered,

Strawberry tart(top left), Strawberry banana milkshake(top right), Lemon meringue tart( bottom left) and Long black (bottom left)

The tart fillings tasted good (strawberries were sweet and lemon curd and meringue went well together) but the pastry itself was a little too dry. The tarts would have tasted better if the pastry had a little more moisture to it. The strawberry banana milkshake was rich of banana and I could not taste anything that is strawberry-ish, therefore the drink was also just average for me (probably because I have had a better one a week ago at Pacific Coffee Company in Sands Cotai, Macau). Although the tarts and drinks were a little disappointing for us, we will definitely find a time to go back for their brunch menu which seems to be a popular hit with customers.
