SIC: Salt Water Supercars by Shell [Ready. Salt. GO!]

Shell Singapore has been bringing in collectable cars over the years if you can remember. In line with the recent launch of Shell Dynaflex Technology, Shell has launched its most advanced Salt Water Supercars collectables. You can get them from now till 30 June 2019 at any Shell stations.

The Shell Salt Water Supercars are fitted with electric engines powered by salt water, and are available in four designs – (1) Lightning, (2) Fireball, (3) Sunchaser, and (4) Shadow. Lightning and Fireball are currently on sale, while Sunchaser and Shadow would be available from 15 May 2019 onwards. Amongst all, the Sunchaser is my favourite while Fireball is Ashley’s. Playing these Salt Water Supercars allow me to share with Ashley on the alternate sources of energy generated through salt water, as well as wind and solar energy. They are definitely educational for young children. The only downside with using salt water is the limited amount of play time. Luckily, our set came with rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. Otherwise, I would have had a hard time coaxing the kiddos! Apart from the Salt Water Supercars, you can also let your imagination run wild with building the race tracks. The tracks are made of Bagasse, which is 100% biodegradable material derived from the fibres of sugar cane. Unfortunately, we only have time for a simple one today but that doesn’t stop the laughter of the kids going on and on.

Launch of Dynaflex Technology by Shell – Most Advanced Fuel Solution

Have you topped up your fuel tank with the latest fuel formulation from Shell? After more than five years of extensive research and development, Shell had launched its most advanced and innovative fuel formulation in Singapore on 10 Apr 19. Drivers in Singapore are now able to enjoy the new range of Shell FuelSave and Shell V-Power fuels with Dynaflex Technology!

We are happy to be invited to witness the launch in Singapore, and to hear directly from some of the scientists involved in the research. More than 250 cars were used, covering over 3 million kilometres, for testing globally. Dynaflex Technology focuses on engine efficiency and is developed to handle the modern engines, which are shrinking in sizes but yet running under ever increasing challenging environments. The new Shell fuels will help driver keep their engine clean and protected for an efficient drive.

Two key concerns with modern engines shared by Shell scientists, Kay Wu and Andreas Schaefer, were friction and dirt. They resulted in reduced performance and efficiency for your vehicle. The new Shell Dynaflex Technology will tackle these issues with new friction modification technology and power deposit control additives.

It’s a wrap for 2018!

Today is the start of a brand new year and I have managed to steal a few moments to sit down and compile some of the highlights we had in 2018.

Work wise, the past one year has been kind to us with Colin and I achieving new heights and pursuing new direction in our careers respectively. With Colin swamped in work, I was lucky to have the opportunity to have a change in environment to not only learn new things but to also devote more time to the 2 cheeky little babies at home.

Switching gear to the little ones, nothing delights us more than seeing the growth of the sibling bond between Ashley and Kingsley and we hope this bond will continue to grow stronger as they grow up and even grow old. Here are some sneak peeks of the little ones together.

Revived ASUS AIO ET2220INTI-I5 – Flickering Screens (Overheating)

Back in June 2013, I did an un-boxing review on the ASUS AIO ET2220. 4 years have since passed, and now it is starting to give a little problem – flickering greenish screens! Based on my test so far, the greenish screen only appeared after some time of usage (like 30 mins or so). And then the screen will then start to flicker until the screen finally turns itself off while the system is still running. And if you were to shut it down and power it up after 15 minutes, the system will be fine again. I then began performing some diagnostics using HWMonitor and found out that the temperature of the onboard graphics Nvidia GT610 had hit a high of 75°C. This is definitely not the norm as it should idle around 50°C and increase to approximately 65°C during load.

So what is the problem? It is likely to be associated either to the cooling system (i.e: heatsink and fan) or the thermal paste losing its effect. I decided to open up the chassis to take a look.

First, you have to remove the 5 rubber seals at the edges, and then remove the screws beneath it. And then remove the plastic cover for the stand and loosen the 4 screws.

The next step is to remove the back cover that are secured by the plastic clips. Please do this with care or you might risk breaking the clips as they are very soft. After releasing the back cover from the plastic clips, DO NOT pull the cover out as it it connected to the side ports via a ribbon.
